No Aamir in theatres this year!

For those who are eagerly awaiting the Christmas holidays to catch Aamir Khan’s next release ‘3 Idiots’, here’s some bad news. If the conflicting voices are anything to go by, it looks like the Rajkumar Hirani- directed film is going to be delayed a wee bit. The film was supposed to release on December 25, but sources say the rush to release films that have piled up due to the 63- day producers’ strike showed its adverse affect on the Aamir starrer. This may effectively mean there will be no Aamir films released in 2009.
In fact, the United Forum of Bollywood Producers, that includes filmmakers such as Mukesh Bhatt and Ronnie Screwvala, had even constituted a committee to find slots so that pending films may be released smoothly after the strike without causing much loss to each other’s business. It is this committee which seems to be behind the delay in the film’s release.

Aamir & SRK in a film !

The long wait for cinema audiences everywhere is now over with Zoya’s Luck By Chance (produced by Excel Entertainment and Reliance Big Pictures) hitting the screens on January 30. Interestingly, the Khans play themselves in the film, but regretfully don’t share screen space and appear at different times individually. SRK interacts with Farhan and Aamir with Konkona. Both superstars have excellent relationships with Farhan and Zoya and both wanted to support this film.Even though Aamir doesn’t do cameos, he readily agreed because he is familiar with the set-up having worked with producer Ritesh Sidhwani and director-actor Farhan in Dil Chahta Hai.
Also, Aamir who works on bound scripts only, had already read Luck By Chance’s script when Zoya took it to him for feedback some years ago. So that was also okay.“Initially, we were in a fix wondering how to talk to him, knowing his stance on cameos, till dad called me up to say he had spoken to Aamir,” explained the petite Zoya. Once dad Javed Akhtar succeeded with Aamir, SRK was easy to approach. “I personally spoke to Shah Rukh. But I won’t like to take the credit alone, because both actors did it out of friendship for Farhan and Ritesh. There is a lot of respect between all of us,” she added.
The film has Bollywood as its backdrop with Farhan playing a struggling actor opposite Koknona. “This is the first original story that gives you an insider’s journey of the film industry. A struggler’s experience,” said Ritesh. And here’s another little secret: Aamir shot for the film when he was in the midst of Ghajini and had the tonsured look; so, the consummate actor agreed to wear a wig for Zoya!

Aamir Khan wants to be Krishna, plans to make Mahabharata

After giving films outstanding films like Tare Zameen Par and Ghajini Aamir Khan reveals that he has a dream project. Aamir expressed his desire to do an epic drama Mahabharat. “Yes, I have been thinking about it for a long time. It has been a favorite subject which I have been contemplating for a long time.”
Being a perfectionist Aamir believes that this kind of subject requires a lot of preparation. He says “Even the slightest mistake can be noticed. People should be amazed when they watch a film like this. You need a lot of courage to make a vast subject like this and right now I am even scared to attempt it.”
He informs that though his favorite character from the epic is Karna he won’t be able to do it. “I feel Karna is an amazing character. But I cannot play that role. The characters in Mahabharat are warriors and they are Kshatriya’s there were all six feet and above. They all were tall and well built. I would not fit into any of the characters as I am very short. I think I would suit only Krishna’s role the best.” He quips. -

Murugadoss to do a film with Aamir again

After the box office success of his debut Hindi film Ghajini, A R Murugadoss has become a celebrity in Bollywood.
After the release of Ghajini, most of the Hindi superstars have been requesting Murugadoss to do a film for them. But the director is now preparing a script to make it in Hindi.
According to Murugadoss, he will not return to Tamil immediately. His next project will also be with Aamir Khan and after the completion of this project he will return to Tamil. "I have two scripts and want to work with Aamir again. I'm his biggest fan," said Murugadass,
Regarding the remake of Ghajini, the director commented: 'Aamir is truly a perfectionist as he is known in Bollywood. He's brilliant and brings a different level of energy on to the sets. There's nobody like him."
Actually Murugadoss made changes in the film to suit the Hindi audience and of course, the censor board asked them to cut down certain violent scenes in the film.
"Scenes which were very gory were cut and we made changes in the climax since I wasn't happy with it. The characterization of the songs was also changed and certain fight sequences were removed. I actually got to improve my own mistakes by remaking my film," said the director.

Big release planned for ‘Ghajini’ starring Aamir Khan

Ghajini distributors, Studio 18, plan to play safe and rely on pre release hype to recover their investments in A.R. Murugadoss’ Ghajini. The film will be released on Christmas Day countrywide with 1200 prints, a record that surpasses the 1050 print release of Singh Is Kingg.
“‘Ghajini’ will be the biggest and widest release ever, breaking the record set by ‘Singh Is Kinng’, which was also distributed by us,” says Aman Gill, Director, Domestic Theatrical Distribution, Studio 18.
“With ‘Singh Is Kinng’, we set a precedent in the way the films are marketed and with ‘Ghajini’ we tend to go beyond that,” adds Priti Shahani, Sr. V.P., Marketing & Distribution, Studio 18,
It is likely, the Studio 18 move is motivated as much by their confidence in the film as the jitters from the prevailing economic downturn. What is for sure is they are not banking on word of mouth publicity.
