Bindu Madhavi in Puri Jagannath’s film




The actress (Bindu Madhavi) who impressed everybody in her debut film Avakaya Biryani has been signed on to play the lead role in the next film of producer-director Puri Jagannath.Puri will produce a film titled Kothulu (Monkeys) with his brother Sai Ram Shankar as hero. This film will go to floors in January 2009. The pre-production works are already in progress.At present, Puri is busy giving final touches to Neninthe starring Ravi Teja and debutant Siya.

Jackie Shroff in a Tamil film


Noted Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff, who successfully cast magic spells in Bollywood playing versatile roles, is venturing to do a film in Tamil now.
The handsome actor will play the lead role in a movie titled 'Aranya Kandam', to be produced by Capital Film Works. Kumara Raja, who penned the script for 'Oram Po' and worked as associate to 'Rajeev Menon' and 'Pushkar – Ghayathri', is directing the film.
The movie has Sampath Raj and Ravikrishna playing prominent roles. Impressed with the storyline, Jackie readily agreed to do the film.
At a time when Tamil actresses and technicians are going to Bollywood, Kollywood is getting ready to welcome a prominent actor from Mumbai to play a lead role in a Kollywood film.

Ranjitha in the role of Vijay's mother


Ranjitha, the yesteryear heroine who was introduced by director Bharathiraja in Nadodi Thendral, is to play the role of Vijay's mother in the Prabhu Deva directed movie Villu.
Ranjitha, who made her debut in the early nineties (the same time when Vijay also started his career) has played heroine in many successful films including Sathyaraj's Amaithipadai.
After entering wedlock the actress switched over to small screens and acted in some serials including the successful one Roja. Now she is back to the big silver screen with a senior lady role.

MN Nambiar Passes Away


Veteran actor M.N Nambiar (89), passed away yesterday (November 19) afternoon at his residence in Chennai. Nambiar was ailing for quite some time, and was hospitalized some days back.

Manjeri Narayanan Nambiar was the best known 'villain' in Tamil films who graduated to character roles. He became a legend during his life time mainly playing the villain in MGR films. He has done over 1000 films in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi.
Reminiscences 'Film News' Anandan, the Kollywood historian and journalist: " Nambiar was the first villain actor in Tamil cinema to get claps, when he appeared on the screen. He was a very good actor as he had a theatre background. The MGR formula films were not complete without Nambiar as the villain. Though he played the villain, he was a perfect gentleman and a good human being and had no enemies"
Says noted director P.Vasu who grew up on MGR films: "Who can forget Nambiar? He was the epitome of villainy on screen. I remember films like Enga Veetu Pillai, Aayirathil Oruvan with MGR sir and Ambikapathy, Utama Puthran with Sivaji sir.
These were classics and Nambiar sir's role in these films was outstanding." In the later part of his career he has done a lot of sympathetic character roles in films like Bhagyaraj's Thooral Ninnu Pochu.
In real life Nambiar was an ardent devotee of Lord Ayappa of Sabarimala. He was a 'Guru Swamy' to a lot of superstar's who made a pilgrimage to Sabarimala, including superstar Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan.
