Kamal, Mohanlal & Venkatesh join hands

Kamal and Mohanlal will be seen together in Thalaivan Irukkiran, a redo of A Wednesday, a Hindi film. Kamal was recently spotted discussing the script and final schedules of the movie with Mohanlal which is being produced by Rajkamal productions and said to be directed by Chakri, an ad film maker based in US. The film will be shot both in Tamil and Telugu with Venkatesh taking Mohanlal’s place in the Telugu version.
The highlight of the movie is that it will have no women characters, except that of a TV anchor. Three names figure in the probable list, ‘Mirchi’ Suchitra, Veejay Pooja of SS music fame and Mallika Sherawat. Wonder who the lucky one is! Shooting will start from March 9 in Chennai and Mohanlal will join the crew on March 23. Later the Telugu version will be shot in Hyderabad. The film is expected to be shot in a relatively short span of time and make it to theatres by July

Katrina out, Mugdha in for Rohit Shetty's comedy

Mumbai, Mugdha Godse, who made quite a few heads turn in "Fashion", has replaced Katrina Kaif in director Rohit Shetty's next entertainer.
Shetty, whose "Golmaal Returns" had set the cash registers ringing last year, confirmed that Katrina was the first choice for the film, which is yet to be named. "Yes, we wanted Katrina Kaif in the project. She would have been a definite value-add. It's a pity though that she can't be doing my film because the dates of my film clash with some other assignments of hers," Shetty told IANS. Mugdha, who is paired opposite Neil Nitin Mukesh in Madhur Bhandarkar's "Jail" too, is only too happy to be in the full-on entertainer that is Ajay Devgan's home production. "I love singing and dancing around trees and have no contempt for hardcore commercial Hindi films. I'm happy to be playing one of the female leads in the film. Moreover, my part requires me to look glamorous as well as add to the plot," said Mugdha. Is she aware that Katrina was initially approached for the role that she has been signed on for? "I have heard about this, but frankly I don't worry about such things. Cliched as it may sound, replacements do happen in the industry. I don't know whether I'm replacing anybody or not. but I'm glad about playing an interesting character," Mugdha chirped. So is she excited about working in her first 'masala' film? "I'm happy to be paired opposite Fardeen Khan and I love that man's style. Moreover, I'm being directed by Rohit who has never put a foot wrong. He is a guy who thinks commercial cinema and knows how to get his audience engaged in theatres. I'm sure I will have a blast working in this film," the actress said. (source:bollywoodworld.com)

Being one with them throughout, she keeps on throwing dust in their eyes. But in the end, Inspector Clouseau discover that Sonia, played by Ash, is the real culprit and she is not a criminology expert. “The climax has a fight scene where Ash even kicks some butt and tries to flee. Rahman bags 3 Hollywood offers

CHENNAI: While speculation is strife about the benefit that AR Rahman’s win in Oscars is likely to bring to Indian entertainment and sound industries, the music icon, who has grown larger than life into a maestro, has landed himself three offers from Hollywood.
“Yeah, I have received 2-3 offers,” he said in his trademark matter-of-fact tone, albeit with an added touch of euphoria. “Due to the confidentiality in the agreements, I cannot talk about them any further,” he said. He was addressing the media in Chennai on Thursday in a mood of jubilance, having slept barely seven hours after his arrival from Los Angeles at 3.
The air in the hall cackled with almost as much energy as his Oscar winning song releases. “Jai Ho! Embodies the release of an extraordinary energy,” he said. “The music enhanced the film, like the jewel on a beautiful ornament. And it, somehow, also appealed to a western sensibility.”
The musician, who did Tamil proud by addressing a few words in his mother tongue to the audience at the Kodak Theatre on Sunday, admitted that despite having forayed into different styles of music, composing for Tamil songs, having grown up with the language. But, that didn’t stop him from taking wild risks at the international stage. “Less than one-tenth of the budget of Slumdog Millionaire was allocated for its music. If I had shied away from it, I would have missed all this,” he said.
He recalled the moment nearly two decades ago, when he stood under the spotlight receiving a national award for his debut with Roja, directed by Mani Ratnam. “I had only as much expectation for this award, as I had for that one!” he said. “Well, after Golden Globe and Bafta, I had some 5% more expectation.” read more.....

Ash, Abhi have no plans for child

Though they were married for more than two years now, Bollywood's sizzling couple Aishwarya and Abhishek Bachchan have no plans to extend his family at the moment as they are busy with their commitments. They have signed many projects and both focused on their individual career. When Bachchan junior was asked when we can hear the good news from them, he slyly replied, “We feel that a child is God’s gift and frankly have not planned about having a child as of now because both of us are quiet busy with work. As and when we do have a child, what is of primary importance is that we should have a healthy child and it is immaterial whether we have a son or a daughter”.In the past few films, Abhishek paired with his wife and in some of his future projects too he has Ash as his on-screen partner. He is not in the favor of having Ash in all his films but if the film and the director demands so, he will be more than happy to cast opposite her but there is no any hard and fast rule to have Ash only. “ It is petty to think that I maneuver to have Ash in every film of mine. I do not decide who should be cast in a film as my leading lady. I do not insist that Ash should be my leading lady. I did two films last year after marriage and Ash was not there in them at all. Ash was not there in Delhi 6 with me. Mani wanted her in his film which has a working title like Ravana and Abhinav Deo was keen that she should be a part of his film”, said Abhishek.Abhi's Drona and Delhi 6 both did not fare well at the box office in spite of putting lots of hard work. Next he is looking forward to Balki’s Pa in which he has been cast with his dad.(source:bollywoodmantra.com)

Amitabh Bachchan to get Robin Williams’ Makeup Artist

So far the closest any filmmaker has come to changing Amitabh Bachchan’s look was Raj Kumar Santoshi who got the icon to trim his trademark beard to play the cop in Khakee.
Now Balki, the mega-star’s close friend and creative ally who made the generation-challenged romance Cheeni Kam, will completely change the Big B’s look in their next film together.
The actor requires a new look, and for this purpose Balki has acquired the services of the renowned Hollywood makeup artiste Stephan Dupuis.
Dupuis, a two-time Oscar winner was responsible for Robin Williams’ utterly-credible drag act in Mrs Doubtfire.
Says Balki, “My new film Pa requires very careful calibration. Mr Bachchan will be changing over to a completely new look for the role. I won’t say we don’t have any makeup artistes in India who could’ve done the needful. But after seeing Dupuis’ work in Mrs Doubtfire I felt he was the right person to give Mr Bachchan the makeover he requires.”
The hyper-busy actor known to be extremely finicky about get-ups and false hair pieces has decided to surrender completely to Balki and Dupuis’ vision.
The internationally saluted makeup maestro who has recently styled Sean Penn in the celebrated bio-pic Milk, was familiar with the Big B’s work and is now catching some of his best films on DVD to see how far the actor has experimented with his looks in the past.
Interestingly Mr Bachchan has never done too many variations on his looks.
Not counting the wizened facial disguise in Aakhri Raasta and Sooryvansham to play the patriarch, the elaborate takeoff on Mehmood in Desh Premi and the eunuch’s song in Lawaaris.
Balki the super-gifted admaker who gave a new twist to the concept of cross-generation love by casting Amitabh Bachchan and Tabu as a pair in Cheeni Kum is all set to start his second feature film Pa.
But this time, no Tabu.
In Chennai to finalize the illustrious Ilayaraja for the music and P.C. Sreeram for the cinematography Balki explains, “I’d have loved to cast Tabu again. But Mr Bachchan has no romantic lead opposite him and it’d have looked really odd to cast Tabu opposite Abhishek so soon after she had played his father’s co-star.”
So Vidya Balan, it is.
But the focus is on the father-son jodi. A bit of a cliché, no, to cat Senior and Junior Bachchan as father and son in a film called Pa?
“You have to see it to know what they play. This is not a conventional father-son story. If Cheeni Kum was a casual comedy Pa is a casual tragedy.”
The film will be shot in Delhi and Gwalior.

Actress Asin Unplugged

all had gone well Asin would have moved into her own home in Mumbai
by now.”But I’ve been traveling non-stop. I had no time time to look around and find a place. But now we’re finalizing a place in Bandra. Hopefully by new year I’ll lock in to the place. And we’ll move in. Right now we feel a little unsettled. In Mumbai you desperately need your own home.”
Asin’s parents have moved from Chennai to Mumbai with her. “Both of them gave up their jobs to be with me. Mom is a doctor. She has taken voluntary retirement. She manages my home now. And Dad had sevenbusiness enterprises. He gave them up to look after my career. Right now I’m quite a handful and worth more than all his business ventures.”
And she bursts into peals of laughter.
Asin is a fun-loving extremely atypical South Indian who chatters non-stop, if allowed.
She admits she was asked to keep quiet. “The marketing team felt better that I keep my distance from the press until the film’s release. However that didn’t stop wildly-speculative writeups about me. I read things about myself that I didn’t know.”
Like feeling insecure about her co-star Jiah Khan? “Is that really me?
I’ve worked in South Indian films with female co-stars and never felt insecure. I worked with Nayantara in the Tamil Ghajini without my conflict. Why would I feel threatened by Jiah? Was this a publicity strategy? It was being implied that I was somehow responsible for keeping Jiah out of the publicity. I don’t know how one heroine can influence a huge marketing strategy.”
Jiah and Asin have no scenes together. “But we have of course met and we’re very cordial with one another. We got along fine. I’ve had no fights with anyone in Tamil or Hindi cinema so far. All these stories of friction make me feel strange. I wonder who these people who spread such rumours are.”
And no, Asin was under no contract with the Ghajini makers. “I’m under no contract. Didn’t I sign London Dreams while Ghajini was being shot?
If I haven’t signed another film, it’s because I haven’t come across anything exciting. I was supposed to do Priyadarshan’s film with Akshay Kumar. But that clashed with the Ghajini ’s promotional dates.”
She will be moving into her new home in Bandra in January after the release of her first Hindi film Ghajini.
“But even without my own home I feel at home in Mumbai. For one almost the entire unit of Ghajini was South Indian. Most of them were people I had worked with. So we were constantly chattering on the sets in Tamil or Telugu. Except of course Aamir Khan who was new to all of us.”
London Dreams was much tougher. “The total crew was totally Bollywood. So practically speaking London Dreams is my first Bollywood experience. Ghajini was easier than my second Hindi film London Dreamswhere I had to start from scratch with the character. In Ghajini my character remained untampered except the language. Here I was speaking Hindi instead of Tamil. Otherwise no changes.”
Her character is not the archetypal glamorous decorative doll. “I play a struggler in the ad world one of the many eager faces you see hanging out at ads shoots.”
Asin’s Hindi has always been good and she won’t require any dubbing from outsiders, thank you.
How different is Aamir from Salman Khan? “While Aamir mulls overs scenes Salman must be prepared from beforehand. Because you don’t seem him rehearse on the sets. But everyone in Mumbai is thoroughlyprofessional.”

Nayan`s ban lifted

Nayantara is a happy lady again as the Tamil Film Producers Council and the South India Film Actors Association has lifted the ban imposed on Nayan on 7th February. Sources add that an amicable settlement has been reached and hence that the ban is revoked. The TFPC and Nadigar Sangam have conveyed earlier to their members, the producers not to sign her for any future films.
It is not yet clear if Nayan has agreed to repay the money to Payya producer Subash and director Lingusamy. Nayanthara amidst all these was in chennai for the photo shoot of Aadhavan. This sets to rest the rumours in industry circles that Nayan has been thrown out of the project. She also attended Prabu`s daughters wedding reception.

Saif staying away from Kareena on Valentine’s Day

Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif are not the only couple to stay away from each other this Valentine’s Day. Bollywood’s hottest couple Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor too will not be together on V-Day, as they are busy shooting for their own films at different locations.
Saif and Kareena always makes sure that they dropin to each other’s film sets if they shoot in India. Surprisingly, they are not very eager to meet each other this Valentine’s Day. Kareena doesn’t feel the need of celebrating it, as her handsome man is always with her.
It’s very unlike Saif-Kareena to ignore Valentine’s Day, a day when cupid-struck lovers express their feelings to each other. Maybe they express their love everyday!

Sanjay Dutt-Imran Khan’s perform heart-in-the-mouth stunts

Later this week Sanjay Dutt, Imran Khan and debutante Shruti Haasan will be performing heart-in-the-mouth stunts on top of speeding trains in Namibia. All of them have been provided with water-tight insurance.
Informs Soham, “The action sequences are dangerous. But our action director Allan Amin is equipped to handle all eventuality. And yes all the actors who will take part on these stunts are insured. My producers Asthvinayak have taken good care of the actors.”
Earlier the train sequences were supposed to be shot in the same place in South Africa where Dhoom 2 and Drona were shot. This place, says Imran Khan, provides filmmakers a lot of creative liberty denied at other railway stations in other countries.
Soham corroborates this statement. “Yes, we were going to shoot in the same location in Namibia where Dhoom 2 and Drona were shot in the capital city of Windhuk. But now we’ve cracked another location for novelty’s sake. We are now shooting the train sequences in another city. The original location has now grown stale.”
Soham Shah’s outdoor action adventure film Luck ran out of luck when his climactic stunts on top of a speeding train in Namibia was halted by a railway strike in October 2008.
Now the unit finally returns to South Africa to complete the incomplete climax.
Says Soham, “We were able to shoot in Namibia for two days . Then the indefinite railway strike in Namibia threw us off track. No train driver was willing to break the strike for our shooting. We had a 20-schedule left. We lost a lot of time and money.Everyone’s combination dates had to be reworked.”
The film also introduces Kamal Haasan’s daughter Shruti Haasan. “It isn’t a conventional heroine’s role with crying dancing. She has to do a lot of rugged outdoor sports along with the rest of the cast.”
Soham loves outdoor sports. “Luck falls into the genre of adventure sports. This has never been done before.”
Shooting in Namibia starts on 23 Januuary.
Soham refuses to call Luck a difficult film. “Putting it together was difficult. Shooting it was fun.”
