Mumbai, March 19: It`s time for bhangra. Three films to be released in the next fortnight will have one common theme - a Punjabi background.

"Aloo Chaat", "Ek - The Power of One" and "Videsh" all have either a Punjabi or someone settled in Punjab as the principal protagonist.
"In `Aloo Chaat`, I play the part of an NRI who returns to his Punjabi family based in Delhi with a prospective bride," says Aftab Shivdasani, who is actually hard to be imagined as a young Punjabi man. However, director Robby Grewal, who is a Punjabi from Delhi, has ensured that the Punjabi milieu is very much on the forefront in his third directorial outing.
While his supporting actors like Kulbhushan Kharbanda and Manoj Pahwa are shown to be hardcore Punjabis, there is this entire culture drive revolving around Punjabiyat in the film. Bobby Deol shot fight scenes in heavy rain

New Delhi: Bobby Deol didn't bother about the pouring rain and freezing temperature while shooting fight scenes in muddy fields for Sangeeth Sivan's "Ek - The Power of One" in Punjab in December, leaving producer Jaswant Khera highly impressed.
According to a source, the film unit was shooting for a major action sequence amid heavy rains. Even the vanity vans of the actors had to be parked around two kilometres away from the location and the unit members took long gaps between shots because of the weather. For Bobby's convenience, the producer even requested the actor to go and rest in the van as he was worried about his health, but Bobby insisted that if the entire unit could bear the weather so could he, added the source.
"These fight scenes had to be shot in muddy fields and freezing temperatures and the unit had already lost three to four days of shoot due to the climatic conditions. I was absolutely overwhelmed with Bobby's dedication and professionalism and the action sequences have turned out to be wonderful in the film," said Khera.

Kareena Kapoor, who has received as many as four awards in just one month, says plans of her marriage to Saif Ali Khan may not happen for at least two years as her career is going great guns.
“It won’t happen for the next two years for sure. Am I crazy to get married now when so many wonderful things are happening to my career? Saif himself is ultra-busy trying to set up his production house. Marriage can wait. I’m just happy to have him by my side. I’ve got the best guy any girl can ever have.
“Right now I’m so busy I don’t have time to sleep properly. I haven’t even had time to move into my new house,” Kareena told us in an interview.

DDLJ crosses 700 weeks

It was released late 1995 and is almost fourteen years old now. But Yash Raj’s all time musical hit Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge continued its successful run at the box office crossing the 700-week mark. The film which is considered one of the best romantic films to come out of Bollywood also made Shahrukh Khan and Kajol bigger stars. It had previously broken the record of the 70s hit Sholay, to become the longest running film in 2007.
The movie has been playing continuously for 700 weeks at Mumbai's Maratha Mandir theatre, creating a record of its own. It’s being said that Slumdog girl Freida Pinto would be the next Bond girl in a Daniel Craig movie.
The sun.co.uk reported the 24-year-old actress was first spotted by the Bond producers during the casting of “Quantum of Solace” but was considered too young at that time.

Former Miss India Neha Dhupia, who has as many as five films lined up this year, says winning a beauty pageant is no guarantee of striking gold in Bollywood and that it's only hard work that finally counts.

SRK to finalise the IPL anthem

Shah Rukh Khan’s Kolkata Knight Riders’ anthem ‘Karbo, Larbo, Jeetbo Re’ will become a remixed number during the forthcoming IPL season. Our source says that now SRK wants a modified version of the anthem for which music directors Vishal-Shekhar and Pritam are close contenders. Interestingly, SRK will choose whichever of the two versions he will prefer.While SRK has instructed Vishal-Shekar, who had composed the original anthem last year, to come up with a remixed version for this year’s IPL, he also approached his current favourite music director Pritam who gave music in his recent home production Billu for the same.Our source said, “Vishal-Shekar and Pritam are both working on the same anthem. Let’s see who comes up with a better composition.
The offer to both the music directors was made only recently.It may be recalled that last year, Vishal-Shekar were closely associated with SRK since they were working with him on Om Shanti Om even while composing the anthem for Kolkata Knight Riders. However lately, SRK and Pritam have also been working closely because of Billu.When contacted, Vishal asked, “Who told you this?” and he quickly went on to deny that SRK had approached them to modify ‘Karbo, Larbo, Jeetbo Re’. Vishal added, “I would love to do something like that and give some sort of a spin to the anthem.”
Shekar too denied that SRK had approached them for a remixed version but then he quickly added, “That would be really cool.Vishal said, “I haven’t heard that SRK has asked Pritam to do the remixed version. SRK is a professional and if such a thing happens, we will be told about it. But, if Pritam goes on to do it, we have no issues as long as the anthem rocks and the team is inspired by it.”Despite repeated attempts, Pritam remained unavailable for comment. We sent a text message to SRK but he didn’t reply.As for whose remixed version SRK will finally select, may the best man win.

'Love 4 Ever' shoots at New Zealand

Directed and produced by Jayant C Paranji under the banner of Laughing Waters Entertainment Love 4 Ever is introducing Ranadeep and Mridula in the lead. The film had recently completed 34 days of shooting in New Zealand.Giving details, producer cum director says, "It is a love story that runs with grapes orchard in the backdrop. We want to portray that love story in a different angle. As it is a delicate love story that runs between two clean hearts, it needs good cinematography for perfect presentation on the celluloid. So, we summoned Jayanan Vincent who was presently staying in Canada and off to the film industry. He earlier worked for two of my films, 'Takkari Donga' and 'Premante Idera' and bagged Nandi awards for both the films too. That is why I gave him the responsibility of handling the camera."The unit shot four songs in New Zealand besides some scenes on hero and heroine. Over 75 per cent of the shooting was complete with the abroad schedule. Asin to learn Kalaripayattu

Miss Best Debutante of Bollywood will now be Miss Martial Arts of India! Asin, the breezy girl who mesmerized hearts in Hindi cinema with her chirpy girl looks in Aamir Khan-starrer Ghajini, is all set to learn the ancient martial art of Kalaripayattu (stick fighting). She will soon return to her home state Kerala to learn the art from a group of traditional Kalaripayattu gurus.
Why is she suddenly learning Kalaripayattu? The good news is that Asin will be starring in 19th Step , a Indo-Japanese romance where she will be sharing screen space with Japanese star Tadanobu Asano. A Bharat Bala production, 19th Step will portray Asin as a traditional Indian girl well-versed in martial arts and dance. To be made in Japanese and Tamil, the film will be later dubbed in Hindi.
Ask her how does it feel to go back to Kerala, her motherland? Instantly she gushes with excitement. “I needed to learn Kalaripayattu. It is considered the mother of all martial arts. Back home, I'll have a group of traditional Kalaripayattu gurus teaching me the ancient form.”
What about coming back to Tamil? Is she not worried about losing her recent fame in Bollywood? “No, I'm really not worried about not being seen often in Bollywood. Just because my Hindi film did well doesn't mean I do only Hindi films. I liked this particular Tamil film, and so I'm doing it. And I must tell you this Tamil project has been in the pipeline for three years, since the time I was busy with the Tamil Ghajini. Now, Walt Disney is producing the film and we start later this year,” says a confident Asin.

The latest to honour Rahman is the prestigious Anna University of Tamil Nadu, which is to confer an honorary doctorate on the music maestro as part of its centenary celebrations. Anna University will bestow a Ph.D. on A.R Rahman, a Doctorate of Media Sciences, during its forthcoming special convocation.Scheduled for the last week of March, the Varsity will confer honorary doctorates on two other popular personalities also - Tamil Nadu Local Administration Minister Mr. M.K. Stalin for Architecture and scientist Mr. Mayilsamy for Space Science and Aerospace Engineering. Recently, the Governor of Tamil Nadu hoisted a dinner as a tribute to Rahman’s success at the Oscars. At the dinner, the maestro performed the Oscar -winning Best Original Song ’Jai Ho’ to applause and appreciation of the Governor and the other guests.
