Nayantara finds herself out of an Udhayanidhi film again. This time, for reasons best known to her and the producer, she is out of the Suriya starrer, ‘Aadhavan’, to be directed by K.S.Ravi Kumar.The sultry siren was the first choice for the female lead in ‘Kuruvi’, produced by Udhayanidhi’s Red Giant Movies. She was even paid a sum as advance, sources say. But, things changed midway and Trisha bagged the role. The incident is, reportedly, the reason for the hostility between the two. Udhayanidhi, however, wanted to utilize the advance paid to Nayantara by casting her in his next film. But he couldn’t do so for the time being, as he had been badly hurt financially by the bad showing of ‘Kuruvi’. It was then that he planned a film with Suriya.

Tollywood superstar Pawan Kalyan, the younger brother of Chiranjeevi, married his long-time live-in partner Renu Desai at his house on Wednesday. A few family members, including Chiru and film personalities attended the function. Renu was a co-star of Pawan Kalyan in two films--'Badri' and 'Johnny'. The couple have a 5-year-old son, Akira Nandan. The decision to make their relationship legal was taken as rival political parties of Chiru's Praja Rajyam criticised their living togerther, it is believed. Pawan is the leader of the youth wing of PRP, Pawan got divorce from his first wife, Nandini, only in 2008. The out of court divorce settlement with Nandini cost Pawan Rs 5 crore, it is believed.

Ajay Devgan to play Haji Mastan, but says won't copy him

Mumbai, Ajay Devgan is determined not to copy Haji Mastan when he plays the smuggler-turned-film producer in Milan Luthria's "Once Upon A Time In Mumbai".
"The character will be inspired by Haji Mastan, but I won't be copying him. We'll take many cinematic liberties. When I played Mahesh Bhatt saab in 'Zakhm', I wasn't trying to walk and talk like him," Ajay told IANS.Haji Mastan forayed into Bollywood with "Mere Garib Nawaz" (1973) and was also a successful distributor. Known for his friendship with the legendary actor Dilip Kumar, Mastan took to politics later. He died in 1994.Amitabh Bachchan's character in the 1975 super hit film "Deewaar" was modelled on Haji Mastan and now it's Ajay's turn to bring him alive on screen once again.For his role, Ajay will be consulting all the material on the notorious smuggler and also plans to meet up with the Big B to learn how the senior actor approached the complex part.From playing Bhagat Singh to now Haji Mastan is a long journey for Ajay. The shoulder ligament were tore during shooting for Dulha Mil Gaya (2009) last December. SRK will now have to wait for the surgery since his home production Billo Barber (2009) will be releasing February 13, 2009.

It is Jeyam Raja who is the going to direct the 50th movie of Ilayathalapathi Vijay. This comes as a surprise since leading directors like Siddique (Friends) and Dharani (Ghilli, Kuruvi) were considered front runners for directing Vijay’s golden jubilee movie.
Jayam Raja has given movies including Jeyam, M. Kumaran S/O Mahalakshmi and Santhosh Subramaniyam and successfully proved his talents. Vijay’s 50th movie will be produced by Jeyam Raja’s home banner and is expected to release by 2010. It remains to be seen whether he will go for an original subject or for a remake, as the director is known as the ‘King’ of remakes as he understands how to add local flavour and nativity to the original subject.

Shankar and Rajinikanth are going all out to cut costs for Endhiran (The Robot), by shooting in parts of Tamil Nadu, the streets of Chennai and studio settings. After shooting at a private engineering college in Vellore, the unit moved further south to Kelavakkam near Tirupur. Here, scenes were shot at a private educational institute, with Aishwarya Rai as a college student and Rajinikanth as a scientist. The same institute was used by Shankar for shooting the climax lead for his Sivaji. Meanwhile, the team will now shift to a Chennai studio for a dream song of the student who gets smitten by the scientist! Art director Sabu Cyril is making a huge set to shoot the song, which is a duet. To shoot two of his earlier songs , director Shankar had gone to Peru, Los Angeles, parts of the US and the sunny beaches of Goa. Knowing Shankar’s penchant for grandeur, one can expect this song to be shot on a lavish scale. The movie has music by AR Rahman, and for the first time, rapper Yogi B (who shot to fame through the Polladhavan remix and the Kuruvi song) will be singing for the Superstar.

Popular Tamil actor Arya (a Malayalee from Kasargod) is now pinning his hopes on the much-anticipated Tamil magnum opus Naan Kadavul (I am God) by director Bala. He is also to make his first appearance in Malayalam in Casanova, a Rosshan Andrews film with superstar Mohanlal in the lead.The pooja of Casanova took place on Saturday (January 24) at Confidante Cascade, Bangalore, a resort run by the producer Dr. Roy C.J. It was attended by Jagathy Sreekumar, Lalu Alex, Lakshmi Rai, Priyanka, Priyadarshan, Joshy, Sibi Malayil, producers Suresh Kumar, P.V Gangadharan and Antony Perumbavoor.Rosshan Andrews, maker of super hits Udayananu Tharam (remade in Tamil as Vellithira) and Notebook, has been working on this script for the last two years along with its writers Sanjay and Bobby. "After reading the script, Arya was very eager to do the film with Mohanlal. This action, romantic thriller revolves around a Casanova (Mohanlal) who believes that love can cure crime," Rosshan Andrews was quoted as saying. Arya has given 40 days call sheet to shoot the film in April and May.The film has five heroines including Lakshmi Rai. Major portions will be shot in Vienna and other European locations from April 10. R. Divakaran wields the camera while Alex Paul sets music. The action scenes will be choreographed by Hollywood's stunt coordinator Franz Spilhaus of Flight in Phoneix, King Soloman's Mines, Avenger, Singh is Kinng and Drona fame. “Age does not matter but acting is important,” the actress said.

The long wait for cinema audiences everywhere is now over with Zoya’s Luck By Chance (produced by Excel Entertainment and Reliance Big Pictures) hitting the screens on January 30. Interestingly, the Khans play themselves in the film, but regretfully don’t share screen space and appear at different times individually. SRK interacts with Farhan and Aamir with Konkona. Both superstars have excellent relationships with Farhan and Zoya and both wanted to support this film.Even though Aamir doesn’t do cameos, he readily agreed because he is familiar with the set-up having worked with producer Ritesh Sidhwani and director-actor Farhan in Dil Chahta Hai.
Also, Aamir who works on bound scripts only, had already read Luck By Chance’s script when Zoya took it to him for feedback some years ago. So that was also okay.“Initially, we were in a fix wondering how to talk to him, knowing his stance on cameos, till dad called me up to say he had spoken to Aamir,” explained the petite Zoya. Once dad Javed Akhtar succeeded with Aamir, SRK was easy to approach. “I personally spoke to Shah Rukh. But I won’t like to take the credit alone, because both actors did it out of friendship for Farhan and Ritesh. There is a lot of respect between all of us,” she added.
The film has Bollywood as its backdrop with Farhan playing a struggling actor opposite Koknona. “This is the first original story that gives you an insider’s journey of the film industry. A struggler’s experience,” said Ritesh. And here’s another little secret: Aamir shot for the film when he was in the midst of Ghajini and had the tonsured look; so, the consummate actor agreed to wear a wig for Zoya!

Mugdha Godse in Madhur Bhandarkar’s ‘Jail’

It is an honour for an actress to be repeated by Madhur Bhandarkar in his films and after Konkona Sen Sharma, Mugdha Godse has made it to the elite list after being signed on to play the main female lead in ‘Jail’. Again, it could be mentioned here that Mugdha has a three-film deal with Percept Picture Company and since this is a co-production of Percept Picture Company and Bhandarkar Entertainment, this would start her deal with the production house. The film’s shoot will start in February.
Madhur Bhandarkar confirmed the news saying, “Yes, Mugdha Godse has been signed for Jail. She really impressed me in Fashion and it was only right that I bring her in as a female lead in my next film. She is paired opposite Neil Nitin Mukesh.”
Mugdha is just too happy to be a part of the project and says, “I am in an even better position now with Jail since from ‘one of the leads’ in Fashion, I would now be playing a ’sole lead’. Everyone wants to see such progression and I am glad this is happening in quick time. Madhur sir has seldom repeated his heroines due to which I am even more excited that he has chosen to rope me in for the movie. It just shows that if you do hard work and demonstrate good enough potential, you would be noticed.”
Talking about Mugdha’s role in the film, Madhur says, “She would be having a semi-glam look in the film. That’s all I can say for now because anything more would only end up revealing the plot. At the moment, it would just suffice to say that Mugdha is not there in the film just for glamour value but she is also critical to the film’s plot.”
